I recently had the opportunity to create an identity package for two lawyers starting their own firm. They came to me with a pretty firm idea of the look and feel even providing me with a rudimentary mock-up of a logo idea.
I provided them some alternatives based on the idea but we always came back to the original look and feel. So I modified the original to make it more sophisticated but still keeping it's industrial feel.
They were happy with the resulting logo and the business cards.
